academic year basis will be paid semi-monthly over the academic year, which means 18
payments per year. However, academic year faculty may elect a
24-pay plan over the 12-month
period, August 16 through August 15. The 18-pay plan will be
automatic unless faculty complete a 24-pay election form prior to August
15. This form is at http://www.fps.cmich.edu/forms/forms_employment_personnel.asp.
The

Leave of Absence
Q.
Where can I find information about the
Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA)?
A.
The CMU FML policy
can be viewed at
http://www.cmich.edu/Documents/General%20Counsel/manual/p04003.pdf.
Q. Must I use FML for a covered event?
A. Employees
must explain sufficiently the reason for leave so as to allow the
employer to determine whether the leave qualifies under the Act.
Calling in sick is not considered a sufficient notice to trigger an
employer's FMLA obligations. If an employee fails to explain the
reason, the leave may be denied.

the first day of work, what should I do?
A. Notify Faculty

selected
directors?
A.

which lists contact information for dean's offices, academic
departments, and other selected directors, can be found at

numbers for regular faculty positions can be found in three locations:
1) a report on Manager's Desktop titled "Employee List;" 2) departmental
school base report; and 3) the Employee Position Budget Book from the
Financial Planning and Budget office.
Salary and
Benefits
Q.
Where is the guideline for per credit hour salaries for temporary
faculty located?
A.
Credit hour
salaries can be viewed at
http://www.fps.cmich.edu/documents/crhr.pdf.
Q.
What are the conditions for

Q. What is the faculty sick leave bank?
A. If any bargaining unit member should exhaust
her/his accrued sick leave, he/she may draw from this bank pursuant to
guidelines developed by the Faculty Association and use the allowance from the
bank as if the days were accrued. A bargaining unit member may use no more
than a total of one hundred thirty (130) days of sick leave in any calendar year
and/or for the same continuing illness.
Q. Do temporary faculty members get sick leave?
A. Yes. Full-time temporary
faculty accrue 10 days of sick leave per year. If an employee is
less than full-time but at least half-time, her/his accrual is
prorated. Charge sick leave for any missed classes or other work
obligations due to illness based on her/his employment status. For
instance, if an employee is half-time, charge 4 hours sick leave for
each day absent.
Note, however, that temporary faculty employed at
less than half-time are
not entitled to sick
leave pay. If an absence occurs, the chairperson should determine
whether it is appropriate to deduct wages for missed work or allow the
employee to incorporate missed class material in the remainder of the
semester. Contact FPS if wages should be deducted for the absence.
