Spanish (Tenure-track, Assistant Professor)

The Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Central Michigan University invites applicants for the position of tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Spanish, beginning Fall 2010.

Requirements:  Ph.D. by Fall 2010; native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English.  The successful candidate must present evidence of teaching excellence as well as demonstrate a commitment to scholarship.  We seek a candidate whose specialization is Spanish Peninsular literature, specifically Civil War to present, with the ability to also teach a full range of undergraduate Spanish language courses and an occasional graduate-level course.  Other desirable qualities include experience in teaching Spanish for the medical profession and translation courses (Spanish to English and English to Spanish), and an interest in developing hybrid and on-line courses.

Teaching load is normally 18 credits per year (3 courses per semester).  Other duties include research, advising, curriculum development and service on committees.  (See http://www.chsbs.cmich.edu/FLLC/ for further information.)
