Reading/Literacy (Tenure-track, Assistant or Associate)

The Department of Teacher Education and Professional Development at Central Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor effective August 2010.  Candidates must have an earned doctorate in education with an emphasis in reading/literacy studies (ABD considered if completed during the first year of appointment for assistant rank); PK-12 specialization in elementary literacy; and have completed at least three years of successful teaching at the PK-8 school level.  Candidates must have specialized knowledge in reading assessment, integrated language arts, and reading instruction; show documentation of scholarship appropriate for the rank and possess effective written and oral communication skills.  Candidates applying for associate professor must provide documentation of successful experience teaching literacy in higher education.  The position requires maintenance of scholarly research and publications, service to the university and PK-12 schools, and effective teaching and advising at the university level.

Preferred credentials include the ability to integrate instructional technology and diversity into teaching and student learning; successful experience teaching literacy in higher education for the assistant rank; grant writing and reading clinic experience.

Student Teaching Coordinator (Tenure-track, Assistant)

The Department of Teacher Education and Professional Development at Central Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the level of assistant professor effective August 16, 2010.  The position involves supervising and advising student teachers during their field experiences in the Lansing, MI area.  The position requires maintenance of scholarly productivity in research, publications, presentation and/or grants writing; service to the university and PK-12 schools; and effective teaching at the university level.  Candidates must have an earned doctorate in education, curriculum & instruction, or related area (ABD considered if completed during the first year of appointment); documentation of three years of successful PK-12 teaching; evidence of teaching effectiveness; evidence of potential for successful scholarship; evidence of effective oral and written communication skills; and evidence of potential for service at university and PK-12 schools.

Preferred qualifications include knowledge of best practice in PK-12 education; ability to use technology to enhance teaching, ability to integrate diversity into teaching, and significant work with PK-12 students; record of successful student teaching supervision and advising; documented scholarly activity; grant writing experience, and record of service at university and PK-12 schools.
