Faculty Generalist Counselor (Tenure-track, 10-Month, Assistant Professor)

Central Michigan University seeks a faculty generalist counselor to join an energetic team.  Established in 1892, Central Michigan University has an enrollment of 27,000 students including approximately 20,000 students on the university's main campus.  Classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a doctoral research university, CMU is recognized for strong undergraduate education and a range of focused graduate and research programs.

The Counseling Center at Central Michigan University seeks a skilled colleague for a 10-month tenure track faculty Counselor position at the rank of assistant professor beginning August 2008.  The Counseling Center provides comprehensive short-term/time-limited counseling services that assist students with a wide range of concerns including academic success, life management, relationship problems, developmental and transition concerns, career and life planning, crisis management and mental health concerns.

Major duties and responsibilities of the Counselor include providing short-term/time-limited individual and group counseling for students, crisis assessment and intervention services, workshops, provision of appropriate on and off-campus referrals, consultation to faculty, staff, students and parents regarding student concerns, outreach, and supervision of advanced practicum students in clinical/counseling psychology doctoral programs and/or interns in masters level counselor training programs.  Counselors by rotation provide after hours on-call services for approximately six weeks during the academic year.  The Counselor position is a tenure track faculty position that requires documented counseling competence, scholarly and creative endeavors, and service to achieve tenure.  Further information about Central Michigan University may be found at www.cmich.edu and the Counseling Center at www.counsel.cmich.edu .

Minimum qualifications:  Masters degree in counseling or clinical psychology, counseling, counselor education, marriage and family therapy, social work or related field; current Michigan limited license; knowledge and skills in short-term/time-limited individual and group counseling supervision, consultation and outreach; demonstrated research, professional writing and/or presentation experience; strong work ethic and interpersonal skills; strong commitment and philosophy regarding diversity; strong commitment to workplace honesty, integrity, direct communication, teamwork, collaboration, and professional ethics; skills, ability and desire to actively engage in scholarly and creative activities and university service in addition to maintaining clinical excellence.

Preferred qualifications:  Doctorate; full license; knowledge and skills in the application of student development theories and assessment; knowledge and skills in working with university student client concerns; experience working with a diverse student population; knowledge, skill and experience in any of the following areas:  eating concerns, substance abuse, program development and outreach, and/or interest in administrative work; knowledge and experience with client data base systems and computer applications for counseling center work.
